Accomplishments (continued)

The Charter School of Excellence has received many awards and special recognitions:

  • Graded “A” for 7 years in a row
  • Named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education in 2008
  • Received an EPIC Gold Award from New Leaders for New Schools for outstanding work in helping to raise academic achievement among students
  • Received three South Florida Annenberg Challenge grants totaling $450,000 with four other charter schools between 1999 and 2004 to create a model accountability and instructional system for charter schools, including the Power Standards based on the Florida Sunshine State Standards
  • Received a $600,000 Microsociety Grant in 2001 to incorporate real world experiences into the curriculum to help students apply learning to real-life situations
  • Participated in research project with CREDO (Center for Research on Education Outcomes) to assess the performance of charter schools across the nation
  • Received several Character Recognition Awards from Broward County Public Schools
