ENROLLMENT
Parents who wish to enroll their child or children must appear in person at The Charter School of Excellence Administrative Offices located at 1217 SE 3rd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. Office hours are from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Faxes and mailed applications will not be accepted.
The school is open to any student residing in the Broward County School District who would otherwise qualify to attend a regular elementary school in Broward County. The school has an open admissions procedure, utilizing a "first come, first served" policy, unless applications exceed capacity; in which case, a lottery will be utilized. Applicants have an equal chance of being admitted through this random selection process conducted by CSE's accounting firm. Enrollment preference is given to siblings of a student already enrolled or the sons or daughters of employees or board members of the school. This is consistent with our support of the family.
Parental involvement is a requirement of admission to the school. All families are required to read and sign a Parent Contract. Each family commits to at least:
- 20 volunteer hours annually for one child.
- 30 volunteer hours annually for two or more children.
-
Volunteer hours can be spent on activities involving:
- Education - Primary teaching or classroom aide, conducting workshops for school employees or supervising students on field trips.
- Administrative Support - Lunch supervisor, front desk duties, after or before school care, or operational support.
- Committee/Team Support - participating on a Committee or Team.
Any eligible student who submits a timely application and whose parents accept the conditions of the Parent Contract shall be considered eligible to enroll, unless the number of applications exceeds the capacity of a program, class, grade level, or building. Any premature vacancies will be filled the same way.
Students may withdraw from the school and at any time enroll in another public school as determined by school board policy.
